Carotid sonography is a fine art, and one that has a large impact on the patients who receive it. A sonographer skilled in this art has the opportunity to stratify a patient for revascularization surgery, define the cause of a TIA or stroke, identify and monitor cerebrovascular disease, monitor patients for post operative complications and even save a life. The diverse patient population presenting for carotid sonography can pose a variety of challenges for sonographers. This session will describe scanning basics as well as common challenges encountered in scanning both normal and abnormal patients. Best practices and expanded imaging necessary for specific situations will round out this complex topic. Join us for this updated talk complete with information on changes in standards.
